What o you get a new mum?
She will be given clothes by everyone.
Do you get something for the baby or the mother?
Something cute or something useful?
There are a couple of people I know that are due to give birth in the near future so I’m trying to think of what to gift them. They both have most of the baby things they will possibly need. So what’s left to give?
Sometimes I feel that when there is a new baby people forget that the mum needs things to. There may be things she hasn’t thought of getting, hasn’t been able to get yet or even things that you know she will need more of when her supply of it runs out. It depends on each individual but for the people I know will be giving birth in the near future I have a list of things I could get for them
- Nappy Bin
- Nappy Sacks
- Baby Bath Products
- Baby First Aid Kit
- Breast Pads
- Nursing Cover
- Breastmilk Storage Pots
- Breastmilk Storage Bags
- Gift Cards
- Nipple Cream
- Maternity Pads
- Sterilising Tablets
- Photo Album/Frame
- Voucher For Photo Printing
- Sea Salt
It’s a long list and I know I won’t be able to give them everything, but it’s a list of things I know they will find useful and appreciate.
When babies are born people seem to forget about the needs of the mother. It’s all cute things for the baby. But sea salt and a box of chocolates will mean the mum can have a nice relaxing, healing bath (when she can find time). A pack of nappies will mean they won’t have to worry about buying and extra pack, if you get it in the next size up it means they don’t have to worry about their baby growing out of the smaller size and having to run out and get a bigger size! Sterilising tablets are useful for those days when your electric steriliser is playing up or if you are going to somewhere that you can’t take your big bulky one. Batteries are great for all those toys and gadgets people buy that never seem to come with free batteries anymore. Books, why does no one think of buy a baby a book anymore? Or one for the mother! She will have lots of long nights and it might help keep her awake during a feed! Photo frames and vouchers for printing are always appreciated, people love to take photos and it is a thoughtful gift they will love.
Basically you don’t have to go all out and spend loads of money you don’t have. Most things can be brought cheap, especially if you shop around. No they won’t make people go ‘awww cute’ but I guarantee any mother will be happy to get anything off that list. More practical than an outfit that their little baby will grow out of before they have washed that poop and puke off.
