Half Way!

20 weeks. We made it half way already! It feels like it takes forever to get to this point. A lot of people won’t have been shopping yet, be it because you don’t want to have a house full of things only for it all to go wrong or because you are waiting to find out the gender.

I waited until now to start buying things for both of the above reasons. Yes we found out we are having a little boy! I couldn’t wait! Maybe if I have another and it’s a girl and then have another I might wait and have a surprise because I’d already have one of each… but who knows what the future may bring.

We didn’t have to wait until the end of the ultrasound to find out, the radiographer did confirm it at the end but we were in no doubt as he wasn’t shy about showing himself off!

There is more to this scan than just finding out the gender, in fact you weren’t allowed to find it out until a few years ago as health care professionals were worried that if people from certain cultures found out they were having a girl it would cause problems. They check the baby for any kind of problems and as they have to have a good poke around to get to all the different angles, you can be left feeling quite sore after.

As many women have probably done before this scan, I went through all the old wives tales trying to find out early if we were going to be having a boy or a girl. Well. All the old wives tales that I found pointed to a girl, even the Chinese calendar. And it turns out it was all wrong!

There he was our beautiful baby boy wriggling around on screen for us to see again. This time I was able to feel his movements slightly, quite a surreal feeling! All checks came back fine and as you can imagine that added to the already happy, excited feeling in the room.

20 weeks down, 20 to go! Yay!
